Speak to a Designer

Project Value: £50,000 - £55,000

This kitchen is a chef’s paradise with its extensive kitchen island providing plenty of preparation space and tower units providing impressive storage. We tailored this extraordinary kitchen design precisely to the needs of our Richmond client who loves to cook.

Combining natural and industrial materials gives an exquisite and unique aesthetic. The warm oak and minimal cement complement each other perfectly, layering textures for a bespoke and contemporary style. The Corian glacier island creates a striking design statement, using contrast to break up and balance the space. By choosing a warmer oak wood and white walls and worktops, we have been careful not to overwhelm the space. Fantastic natural light from the large bi-fold doors enhances the details of the gorgeous oak panel tower units.

The L-shaped island allows for a free flow of movement through the space as well as providing a work surface within reach of every storage unit. We created further space for preparation & mixing within the old chimney breast and included an additional work surface that is discreetly built within a pocket door system where tea and coffee could be made without interrupting the sleek design. Positioning the hob so that it faces the seating area gives the host a feeling of being at the head of the table while cooking, making guests feel comfortable to sit and relax. State of the art Miele appliance give this stunning yet practical kitchen remarkable functionality, exactly what our client was looking for.

Another element of the brief was to create a sense of cohesion between the kitchen and living areas without allowing the large kitchen to dominate. We achieved this by extending the kitchen island into a dining area, introducing the same oak finish as the tower units for a sense of fluidity whilst giving a comforting nod to a traditional dining table. Beautiful and quirky globe pendant lights positioned over the seating area emphasise the contrasting zones of the working and living space, with downlights providing a very minimal and practical lighting option.

Key Features

  • Corian glacier island
  • Globe pendant lights
  • Bi-fold doors

"At the top of the brief was a large island that could cater for the client’s passion for cooking and the ability to move to different spaces for preparation. Though the island incorporated the majority of the worktop space, we created further space for preparation/mixing within the old chimney breast and a further worktop within a pocket door system where tea and coffee could be made but also shut off when not required. Our challenge was to extend the kitchen island into the new living space giving a sense of cohesion without feeling like the kitchen was dominating the space. This was achieved by extending a built-in dining table off the kitchen island which wrapped around to a ‘dresser’ area on the other side of the island."
